Service Description
The NCCER Core: Introduction to Basic Construction Skills is a foundational, competency-based program designed to prepare individuals for entry-level positions on construction project sites. It equips beginners with essential knowledge and practical abilities that form the building blocks for successful careers in the trades. The course covers critical topics such as basic safety (including jobsite hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, and OSHA standards), construction math (measurements, fractions, decimals, area, volume, and basic calculations), proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools, interpretation of construction drawings and blueprints, materials handling techniques, basic rigging (including hitches and load safety), communication skills, and employability skills to help participants pursue and succeed in job opportunities. This industry-recognized curriculum serves as the prerequisite for advanced Level 1 craft training in areas like carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and more, and it meets requirements for programs such as Perkins funding while being widely accepted nationwide. Typically spanning 80–150 hours with a mix of classroom instruction, hands-on practice, and online components, successful completion leads to portable NCCER certification, demonstrating readiness for safe and effective work in construction.
